Profil

Research interest: Mechanistic and experimental studies on laser-induced plasma, also widely known as laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), and its applications to various fields including spectrochemical analysis and laser material processing. He has worked to develop new applications of laser-induced breakdown plasma spectroscopy (LIBS) for spectrochemical analysis, especially related to environmental monitoring such as hydrogen analysis in zircaloy tube used in nuclear power plant using LIBS technique, developing LIBS based technique for soil pollution analysis (CO2 laser and metal sub target), inspection building material degradation using LIBS technique. Nowadays, he is starting a research for analyzing of natural mineral samples using LIBS, especially local materials of his home town Aceh, such as coal, gemstone, and soil especially tsunami impacted soil. Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy study on tsunami impacted soil is one very important research to his home town and its also one research priority of Syiah Kuala University, since his home town Banda Aceh was destroyed by the catastrophic Indian Ocean tsunami on December 2004. He was awarded several research grants regarding laser induced breakdown study on tsunami impacted soil samples. This research is conducted with collaboration with University of Fukui, Japan and King Fadh University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia.
