Banda Aceh, 10 October 2025 – The Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), proudly held the Physics Complex and Open House (PCOH) 2025 under the inspiring theme “Light and Energy: Illuminating Innovation, Driving Creation.” This annual event, organized by the Physics Student Association (HIMAFIS), serves as a platform to foster creativity, innovation, and collaboration among young generations through science and technology.
The celebration opened with a vibrant performance of Tari Ranup Lampuan, a traditional Acehnese dance presented by the Sanggar Seni Fisika. The performance symbolized the harmony of cultural heritage and scientific spirit, setting the tone for an event that bridges tradition and innovation.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in a series of competitions designed to spark creativity and problem-solving skills:
-
Electronics & IoT Design Challenge — showcasing innovations based on sensors, Arduino, and smart systems.
-
Physics Quiz Competition — testing speed, accuracy, and mastery of physics concepts.
-
Essay Competition — providing a platform for young thinkers to share ideas on science, technology, and sustainable futures.
-
Poster Design Contest — transforming the concepts of light and energy into powerful visual messages.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Saumi Syahreza, Head of the Physics Department, FMIPA USK, emphasized the role of science in advancing global goals:
“Physics is not only about theories and equations; it is about creating solutions for humanity. Through PCOH 2025, we encourage students to see science as a source of light that guides innovation and as energy that moves society forward. This aligns with the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). We are proud that this event empowers the young generation to think critically and innovatively for a sustainable future.”
The Department of Physics highlights that initiatives such as PCOH are vital for preparing students to address real-world challenges, from clean energy and digital technology to sustainable environmental management. The competitions not only stimulate academic excellence but also nurture teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.
By connecting science, technology, and cultural identity, PCOH 2025 demonstrates that physics is a unifying force: a light that inspires change and an energy that drives progress.
The organizing committee extended heartfelt gratitude to all lecturers, schools, participants, and supporters who contributed to the success of the event. Looking ahead, HIMAFIS and the Department of Physics are committed to making PCOH 2026 an even brighter stage for innovation and collaboration.
